Kentucky Native American Heritage Month was established by the Legislature in 2004 to recognize the contributions of Native Americans to Kentucky history and culture. According to the legislation, Kentuckians "are encouraged to recognize the contributions of Native American Indians with suitable ceremony and fellowship designed to promote greater understanding and brotherhood between Native American Indians and the non-Native American Indian people of the Commonwealth of Kentucky."
