Renfro Valley
Renfro Valley, located on U.S. 25 in Rockcastle County, was established in November 1939 by Kentucky native John Lair to showcase what was then called “hillbilly music.” The entertainment complex originally consisted of the Old Barn, the Lodge and Restaurant, tourist cabins, campgrounds, and a Gulf service station. Renfro Valley hosted weekly radio broadcasts, a “Barn Dance” variety show, and a “Sunday Morning Gatherin’ ” concert. These shows were extremely popular and drew visitors from across Kentucky and nearby states. The Old Barn is pictured here.
