- Kentucky Historic Preservation Review Board recommends 6 sites for listing in the National Register of Historic Places today in Frankfort
Tuesday, December 18, 2012 A 15-year-old high school student working toward her Girl Scout Gold Award presented her nomination of Buck Creek Rosenwald School in Shelby County for the National Register of Historic Places during a meeting today of the Kentucky Historic Preservation Review Board in Frankfort. That nomination, and others for sites located in Lexington, Louisville, Ludlow, Hindman and Warren County, were all approved and will be forwarded to the National Park Service for final determination.

Monday, August 13, 2012 The Frankfort Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites Department is partnering with the Kentucky Heritage Council/State Historic Preservation Office, Timber Framers Guild Inc. and Lewis County Detention Center to construct an 800-square-foot timber-frame pavilion in the upper meadow at Cove Spring Park in Frankfort, the first activity in a new program to train detainees in the centuries-old craft of timber framing.

Friday, May 18, 2012 The Kentucky Historic Preservation Review Board approved eight sites for listing in the National Register of Historic Places during a meeting Thursday at Spindletop Hall. Approved sites included Spindletop Farm and Springview Farm in Fayette County, the Bybee House in Glasgow, the “Raccoon” John Smith House in Owingsville, the C&O Railway Depot in Catlettsburg, an expansion of the Jefferson Street-Fountain Avenue Residential District in Paducah, and a Lustron House and Jefferson Jacob School in Metro Louisville.

Monday, December 19, 2011 A 1½-story log residence in Bedford, in Trimble County, recently became the 90,000th entry in the Kentucky Historic Resources Inventory, the primary record of Kentucky's historic places. Compiled by the Kentucky Heritage Council, the inventory includes individual listings of houses, barns, outbuildings, commercial buildings and landscape features such as rock fences, documented through extensive research and fieldwork.

Judge Joseph Holt served as President Abraham Lincoln's judge advocate general and presided over the trials of the Lincoln assassination conspirators.

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 To combat misperceptions about the true value of replacement windows, a National Window Preservation Summit will take place July 26-28 at Pine Mountain Settlement School. Sponsored by the Preservation Trades Network, Kentucky Heritage Council and Window Preservation Standards Collaborative, the summit is intended as a critical research effort to provide definitive energy testing data comparing the energy efficiency of replacement windows to that of preserved wood windows, and establish industry guidelines for the restoration and weatherization of wood windows.

Monday, December 07, 2009 The National Park Service announced Friday that the Upper Reaches of Boone Creek Rural Historic District has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the nation’s official inventory of historic and archaeological resources deemed worthy of preservation. The district is centrally located between Lexington and Winchester in the Inner Bluegrass Region.

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 The Kentucky Native American Heritage Commission will host a kick-off for Kentucky Native American Heritage Month beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday, November 1 at the Kentucky State Capitol in Frankfort. In addition to a brief program, activities will include an honor guard, guest drum and friendship dance shared with children from Hearn Elementary School.
